Going Travelling Long-Term: Three Things to Think About

November 20, 2015, In: Travel

You’re never too old to go travelling. Although many of us associate far-flung lands, crystalline seas, and beach-y waves with the young and the adventurous, overseas exploration shouldn’t just be reserved for those on their gap years. The world is a big place, and we should all take some time to get out there and see it.

One of the main deterrents for those who are a little older is the upheaval that accompanies long-term travelling. When you already have a home, a car, a job, and a stable relationship, leaving it all behind is incredibly daunting – but not impossible.

If it’s time for you to uproot, here are three things to think about, along with some solutions to help you out…

#1: Your Job

The most common reason that women cite for not going travelling is that they already have an established job and career. It’s true that not every role can be relocated along with you, but some of them can. If you don’t want to start from scratch, take the time to approach your employer and discuss your move with them. You may find that they’re willing to take you on as a freelancer, or else that they’ll offer to keep a role open for you when you choose to come back. Even if these opportunities aren’t available to you, this in itself shouldn’t be a deterrent; what you’ve achieved once you can always achieve again.

#2: Your Relationship

Another factor that influences many women’s decision to travel or not is their relationship status. For those in a comfortable relationship, the thought of leaving it all behind to see some more of the world can be daunting, but long distance is so much easier than it was even a decade ago. With Facebook, texting, and Skype all providing fantastic opportunities to stay in touch, and flights around the world cheaper than ever before, it may be that some time apart doesn’t have to spell the end for your love life.

#3: Your Home

A third consideration is your property. Travelling abroad long term will often limit your income, and this can make maintaining your home and keeping up to mortgage payments almost impossible. Luckily, there are lots of ways to combat this. If you want to keep hold of your house, then have you considered renting it out? You can usually charge enough to cover monthly mortgage repayments, and there are plenty of agents available to take care of the everyday stuff on your behalf. If you really don’t want to be worrying about tenants from overseas, selling is also an option, and quick sale companies like Quick Move Now can guarantee you a prompt sale and easy transaction.

If adventure is calling to you, then why not try living a life that you’ll truly enjoy?
