Want to get healthy in 2017?

January 23, 2017, In: Health & Fitness

If one of your resolutions was to get healthy this year, you’re not alone. Most of us are aiming to save money, get fit, eat better, lose weight, and improve in our careers this year. And yet studies show that the overwhelming majority of people will have failed in their resolutions by the end of January. Why is this? Often it’s because we end up trying to overhaul every single aspect of our lives- overhauling everything we eat, trying to commit to an hour of the gym every day etc. Since this isn’t sustainable, we’ll typically mess up and then throw in the towel.

So what’s the answer? Small, gradual changes that will mean large results over time. In Touch Rugby has some excellent tips to help you get healthier this year, including both your physical health, your mental health, and your overall wellbeing.

Here are some great tips that you can easily implement this year, so you can stay on track and meet your goals:

Ditch the booze

Most of us a tend to drink a little too much, especially over the holiday season. This can leave you feeling sick, continually hungover, and even bloated from all the extra calories. Many people will commit to Dry January in order to counter this, and while it’s a good idea, you should take a few tips into consideration if you want to be successful.

Since it’s still cold, you may find yourself wanting a mulled wine or two in the evenings. Consider making your own mulled drink, but using apple juice instead. Simmer the juice for ten minutes, along with a cinnamon stick and a few strips of orange peel, add a bit of agave syrup, and you’ve got a lovely evening drink.

Save money while shopping

One of the big reasons why many people fall of their diet wagons is because of the expense. Unfortunately, junk food like chips and chocolate, along with frozen food like pizza and microwaved meals are often a lot cheaper than buying fresh fruit and vegetables. However My Voucher Codes has some great tips if you’re hoping to eat better this year.

Often we can end up splurging on unnecessary (and unhealthy) items when we go to the supermarket. For this reason, avoid going when you’re hungry (you’ll want to buy everything in sight), and commit to only sticking to your list. It’s also a good idea to collect different voucher codes and coupons so you can save money throughout the year, bring your own lunch into work (consider making batches of meals on a Sunday), and ditch the Starbucks- not only is it expensive but it’s full of calories.

Get Active

It turns out that the most physically active people are also the happiest, and a new study has shown that 44% of people have the greatest feelings of wellbeing when they’re exercising or playing sport. Even if you only go for a brisk walk each day, commit to getting active this year- you’ll thank yourself for it.
