We all like to travel, however sometimes we simply can’t get away. Family commitments, finances, and work can all conspire, meaning that no matter how much we want to be off exploring the world, we need to stay home instead.

If you’ve recently returned from travelling, it can be had to get back into the swing of things. Feelings of boredom, reverse culture shock and post trip depression can mean that after you’ve caught up with friends and family, the only thing you really want to do is get back on a plane and go overseas.

Here are some great ways to distract yourself and make yourself feel like you’re actually travelling, when really you’re still at home:

 Bring Vegas to you

If you’ve been lucky enough to visit casinos in places like Atlanta, Las Vegas or even on a cruise ship, it can be easy to miss the adrenaline rush that comes with betting real money. Travel with your taste buds

One of the most interesting and exciting parts of travel is being able to try so many new flavours and foods. Trying the cuisine in another country can be one of the best ways to learn about that country’s history and culture, and often you’ll find that locals are passionate about their food and want to share it with you. This is something you can continue at home, by committing to explore new restaurants in your home town. Get a group of friends together and commit to trying a new restaurant each week, and you may just find a new favourite cuisine.

Ditch your comfort zone

One of the things you may miss about travelling, is the fact that you can often be much more daring and do things that you wouldn’t usually do at home. When we travel we can often be more adventurous, figuring “I’m only here once”.

There’s no reason why you need to stay in your comfort zone at home though, and you can embrace plenty of new opportunities and keep boredom at bay. Consider joining a rock climbing club, getting some friends together for a day of skydiving, take up a new sport like horse riding or a martial art, and you’ll find that having something fun to focus on will take your attention away from missing travel.

Plan a trip

Just because you can’t travel right now doesn’t mean you won’t in the future, and if you’ve got some time on your hands, why not use it to create the perfect trip? Read some guidebooks, browse some blogs, plan your itinerary and find out what things are must-sees in that destination, and what can be missed. That way when you can travel, you’ll have the perfect trip ready to go.
