Perhaps it’s a little early to be thinking about 2018, but there’s no doubt that the new year will arrive before we know what’s hit us!
If you haven’t thought about what you want to achieve, learn, or do in 2018, here are some ideas for new year’s resolutions to get you thinking and hopefully inspire you to have the best year yet!
Work on a new project
Do you fancy learning a new skill? There are so many resources out there, especially these days with access to so many learning apps and online tutorials to at least get you started if not take you through the entire process of learning something new. Whether it’s learning web design, playing a musical instrument or upcycling that piece of furniture in your bedroom that your Shiply driver delivered a long time ago now, take the plunge and give it a go!
Work on your health and/or fitness
Do you want to smash a new PB or just commit to getting out of the house more? There has never been an easier time to get into sport, and you don’t need to spend a fortune on gym membership. If you fancy trying running, why not check where your local Saturday morning parkrun? It’s a totally free timed 5k run that takes place every single Saturday morning across the country. Here you can join a mixed ability of runners that’ll support you every step of the way.
If it’s nutrition you want to change, perhaps you want to switch up your diet to try new things or eat a more balanced diet? You might even want to try something completely different like Veganuary to give yourself a challenge (committing to going vegan for the whole of January), knowing that many others are getting involved across the world.
Commit to spending more time with loved ones
Do you wish you’d spent more time with family last year or wish you hadn’t kept putting off visiting an old school friend? If you’d like to connect with someone in your life, make the first step and reach out. Perhaps you already see someone often but would like more regular catch ups. Our relationships with loved ones are so important and dedicating more time to them could make huge improvements to our wellbeing, even if it’s just calling mum once a week.
The new year is a perfect time to think about your travelling in the year ahead, especially with the January sales around! If you have trouble saving money, try out savings apps or talk to your bank about savings account options – some banks have accounts with strict rules that’ll force you to save money once you commit so look for these if you’re a bit of a spendaholic.
If you’re a frugal traveller, why not commit to spending a certain number of hours planning that trip you’ve always wanted to take, whether it’s hiking The Alps or sunbathing in Australia.
Planning even further ahead
Even if your ultimate goal is impossible to achieve in 2018, you can still put the wheels in motion. If you’re saving for a big purchase like a house or the trip of a lifetime, commit to saving a certain amount of money by a particular time in the year – like saving half the cost of your trip by the summer, or have saved a consistent amount of money each month.
Do you have a new year’s resolution yet? Has this inspired any resolutions for you?
